Shown below are a few comments from some of David's ex-team-mates from Dundee United, including some memories they have of his time there and wishing him well for his 60th birthday (12/06/16).

It was a pleasure and an honour to be on the same pitch as Dave.
Dave was never flustered, played with a level of consitancy with Dundee Utd and Scotland,
that any player would have been proud of.
Dave was a gentleman, a class act on and off the pitch.
Dave could have and maybe should have played at a higher level.
Dave enriched the lives of ALL he played with.
Who can ever forget that famous TOE POKE goal against Brazil ???
Derek Frye
Had the pleasure of playing both with and against David, he was always so calm and composed. Had pace, could pick a pass and could read the game so well he always had time on the ball. He wouldnt have looked out of place in any team. I only ever saw him make one mistake and that was the night he scored a brilliant goal and woke up 11 Brazilians.
Craig Brewster
I only had the pleasure of playing with him on a few occasions in the season 1993/94 which was his last season at Dundee United but watched him with admiration for many years from the terraces of Tannadice.
The game that sticks in my mind was his performance in the Scottish Cup 4th round replay away to Motherwell, he was man of the match that night, what a display, calmness personified from a class player and he was one of the main reasons we progressed that night with Brian Welsh scoring the only goal.
To have played over 850 games for Dundee United is what you call a real and true LEGEND, to also have 35 Scotland caps is a fabulous achievement. An Ultimate Professional.

I've been asked on numerous occasions who is the best player I have played with. Having played at a few clubs and played with some real talented players inc Gazza & Laudrup, people get a shock when I reply Dave Narey was the best I had played with.
He could have played for any top club in the world and wouldn't of looked out of place. Not only does he top that list but also as a person he tops that list. It was genuinely a pleasure to play in a team alongside him.

Dave Narey top bloke, top player! I had the privilege (although briefly) to play along side Dave. He was one of the best ball playing defenders that Scotland has ever produced.
A rock at the heart of the Dundee Utd defence for over 800 games and 21 years he truly is a Tannadice Legend.
Laid back off the pitch almost horizontal on it, he made everything on the pitch so much easier for his fellow defenders.
